Application of Ion Chromatography in Water Iodide Detection
Iodides are binary ionic compounds containing iodine in the -1-valent oxidation state and are electrolytes that are readily soluble in water. Iodine was one of the first elements identified as a life element and is found in very small amounts in natural waters.
Iodide deficiency can cause endemic thyroid and endemic cretinism characterized by dullness, microsomia, deafness, mute, and paralysis in varying degrees. However, when iodide levels are too high, it can cause hyperiodothyroidism. Therefore, the iodide level in water should be monitored and should not exceed the national standard!
